I’d very much like to hear the Zemlinsky, but not in that context! If Nellie Melba thought she was giving short measure, she would sing, amongst much else, the Mad Scene from Lucia as one of several encores, and end by having a piano pushed on stage and accompanying herself in ‘Home Sweet Home’.
