I’m so sorry to hear you’ve not been well… I guess our soft creative hearts are more vulnerable. I hope your surgery is forthcoming and you’re still Covid-free… The pandemic is definitely complicating medical issues that would previously have been resolved in a more timely fashion.

I said I’ve been out of the loop in terms of reviewing – I’ve just been offered the opportunity to review Macbeth. Are you going to? I’d love to catch up! I’m excited; it’s not an opera I’m familiar with, and I love that! Hope to see you there.

Hi, Sophie! – Don’t faint! -= It’s me, replying way too late, I’m sorry, but just as appreciative of your taking the time to write! I’m having an interesting year – I haven’t done a Middle C review for some time now, having been diagnosed with a faulty heart valve and needing replacement surgery, which is simply not forthcoming at present! So I’m taking things very easily and am avoiding Covid as best I can, as to get it and then get called up would NOT be a good idea! Fortunately we have a couple of new reviewers on Middle C, Anne French and Rebecca Stanton, who have come to join Steven Sedley. Meanwhile I am waiting to have my surgery so that I can get back on the reviewing trail, at some stage – though I will still be pretty circumspect re Covid for some time to come. Anyway, great to hear from you, and let me know if you would at any stage like to do some more writing, too – we can’t have an excellent critic like yourself going to waste!!

I saw Girl from the North Country tonight; the first show I’ve been to in literally years. Have you seen it? I’m conflicted.

I’m so glad you enjoyed this show – Barbara is a friend, and I feel like her talent isn’t appreciated enough.
